WILD MONKEY CHAOS
WILD MONKEY CHAOS
Every morning, the surrounding greenery of our locality and the adjoining sizeable agricultural campus would come alive with the constant chatter of Champak, the wild monkey who ruled the neighbourhood. He was a restless bundle of endless energy, never still for a moment. His mischievous eyes were dark and gleaming, scanning and darting from side to side, always in the hunt to cause trouble and chaos for the colony's inhabitants. He did all these simply for the kick or the entertainment he derived.
Champak was the very embodiment of trouble. His slim and agile body allowed him to easily swing from branch to branch of the overhead trees and rooftops. Sometimes, he would trip the electricity wires and cables, plunging the whole colony into darkness and without power during the peak summer season. At other times, he would snap the television cables and the internet wires, disrupting net connections and television viewing. This was especially exasperating when that famous game was on TV and the cable suddenly went off. Or you are on a critical Zoom call or attending that important online class, and the internet connection fails, all thanks to Champak. Champak would chatter endlessly in a high-pitched voice, and high-decibel shrieks echoed through the winds and disrupted the serene atmosphere of the neighbourhood. He had an insatiable need for attention, and his constant chatter was a mix of demands, complaints and taunts, each a testament to his unstable nature.
Nobody was safe from his itching fingers. He would poke and jab at everything whenever he felt like it. The helpless humans and birds were prey to his poking antics, which increased in frequency with each passing day. He was forever naughty and would go scavenging for food, overturning the hawker’s trolleys, and causing a mini catastrophe wherever he went. His stubbornness was legendary, and no matter the amount of reasoning, counselling, scolding or threats could deter him from his mischievous ways. He was the last word on crazy; nobody could discipline or reign him.
Champak was a restless creature who could never sit still. He was always exploring, curious, and hungry. He was hungry constantly, even after he had just eaten. His belly was a bottomless pit, always ready for more nourishment and sustenance. He completely drained the energy and patience of anyone who came across him or crossed his path.
Champak was an extremely clever animal. His eyes were constantly scanning, and his brain schemed while studying the environment. Judging by his perceived reading of the given situation, he struck at the first opportunity to cause trouble. He was a master of his universe and a constant attention seeker who thrived on the discomfort and chaos he orchestrated on unsuspecting people.
Living with Champak meant living in a perpetual state of disorder, discomfort and chaos, not knowing when the next hurricane would strike and from which direction. His presence turned the tranquil environment into a mad, chaotic playground. His playbook of mischief, trouble, attention-seeking antics, constant chattering, poking and jabbing were by now well known to the inhabitants of the area. Putting up with him turned many into a nervous wreck, and his antics were energy-depleting and turbulent. Yet Champak made the place livelier, though it was chaotic.
