For the uninitiated, Thor is the God of thunder, who possesses enormous strength. He has a magic hammer called Mjolnir, which, when he throws it, returns to him like a boomerang. He uses it in many battles to protect mankind. Thor is synonymous with strength, fertility, lightning, storms, thunder, and holy groves and trees. He is a superhero and the founding member of the superhero team “The Avengers.”Chris Hemsworth plays this legendary role.

 

In “Thor: Love and Thunder”, director Taika Waititi has another enthralling instalment to the Thor franchise. The haunting iconic riff of Guns N’ Roses’  “Sweet Child O Mine” is a key element in the trailer, setting a vibrant and nostalgic tone reminiscent of the late 80’s and early 90’s era.This song is the most apt, an iconic hit by GnR, and superbly sets the tone for what to expect in this Thor movie. The song plays extensively throughout the entire duration of the trailer. As the music builds, we see Thor meditatively, attempting to find inner peace and ready to hang up his boots and retire from his superhero obligations. This peaceful, poignant moment is abruptly intruded upon , when Gorr the God Butcher, a galactic killer, vindictive and with an axe to grind against the God’s emerges.

 

Quick cuts show the mayhem and madness Gorr unleashes, interspersed with scenes where Thor goes about his business of assembling his team. King Valkyrie joins Thor, now an emperor but still with a warrior’s spirit and heart. Korg, the alien, steady and loyal friend with a funny streak, promises some comic relief amidst the grimness of battle. The surprise in this movie is in the form of Jane Foster, Thor’s ex-girlfriend, who reappears in this instalment, wielding a reforged Mjolnir and taking the cloak of the mighty Thor.

 

As “Sweet Child O Mine” reaches its chorus, the trailer showcases astonishing cosmic landscapes, fierce battles, and sparkles of humour. The bonhomie, chemistry and camaraderie are on display, hinting at a blend of action, comedy and emotions that the film promises. The trailer ends on a high note, with the team preparing for their cosmic adventure to thwart Gorr and unearth the reasons behind his vengeance and vindictiveness. The music slowly fades out as some credits roll for “Thor: Love and Thunder”, leaving the viewers eagerly waiting for the movie to hit the screens, their appetites whetted by the teaser and their anticipation at its peak.

    MEMORIES OF MY DAYS AT ST. EDMUND’S SCHOOL   Nestled among the hills, ours was an Irish Christian Missionary School. It was founded by Edmund Ignatius Rice, a great missionary and educationist. The story goes that he belonged to a family of tenants who were into farming. When tragedy struck, and his wife died, he was left alone to care for his daughter with special needs. He sold his elegant house, moved into a stable, and opened his first school. Today, about 800 Christian Brothers in 28 countries run prestigious Edmund Rice educational institutions and follow in his footsteps.   St. Edmunds School had colossal buildings built by the Irish Brothers amidst picturesque settings. The school had three large play fields. It also had a very tranquil and very quaint chapel. Prayers were offered here in the serene atmosphere.
